Introducing CMMP - the Church Music Management Program for organists and all church musicians.

Written by a practising organist, it is designed to help with the management of hymns, voluntaries and other music.

What will it do ?

The current version ( 1.8c ) has the following features :-

Service list editing & printing of hymn lists.
- Standard list size 10 lines x 40 characters
- Option on Service list printing for wide format - includes first line of hymns as well as the number.
- Music items can be selected for inclusion in Service lists as 'Prelude' or 'Postlude'.
- Service & music listings can be printed to a file.
- Switch for 'Title' text for printing multiple services on the same sheet of paper.

Fully integrated hymns database.
- sorted by first line, number, Meter or Date used.
- searching ( Case sensitive / insensitive )
- data import - comma or tab separated list.
- data export - comma, tab or padded list.
- printing of database listing to printer or file.
- automatic update of usage data direct from the service list.
- 'Hold' function for duplication of entrys.
Music database
- sorted by title / composer / last used / Book Ref.
- searching ( Case sensitive / insensitive )
- printing of database listing to printrer or file.
- import / export - comma or tab separated list.
- automatic update of usage data direct from the service list.

User configurable names for data files
- including 'Save As' and 'File Load' functions in the Service list editor.
Customised Service Types and Lectionary
- sample files are included in the package.
- Users can create their own using any standard text editor.

Note that 'as supplied', CMMP does not include any actual hymn or music data. Users will need to enter their own data using the integrated editor or the 'import' facility.

What do you need to run it ?

This software runs on a PC under MSDOS 5 or later, and needs a hard disk and a mouse. It can also be run as a DOS application from Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or OS/2 warp 3.0.

NOTE : Future DOS versions will be built and tested with MSDOS 6.0. There SHOULD be no problems, but ..... !

At the present time there is no version for Macintosh machines. Mac users may like to try running it using either 'SoftWindows 2.0' or the 'SoftPC' emulator. Other possible emulation packages include 'Real PC' or 'Virtual PC'. Note however, that these configurations are not supported - other than for queries about the actual application.

How to get a copy

Download the self-extracting .exe version.
To extract the files, simply type cmmp18c at the DOS prompt, or double click on the .exe icon from the Windows file manager.
Download the .zip version.
If you get this version, you will need pkunzip version 2.04g or later. The latest version of pkunzip can be downloaded from various archive sites. Version 5.0b of WinZip is also known to work and is highly recomended for Windows users. See the documentation provided with these packages for details of how to install and use them.

However you get a copy, PLEASE REGISTER IT. That way you will get notification of all the updates, bug fixes etc.

Y2K

Version 1.8C is Y2K ready. All previous versions have a bug in the date comparison and sorting routines.

Does it cost anything ?

NO ! The current version of CMMP is ABSOLUTLY FREE to private users, churches and educational institutions. All we ask is that you give it a try and let us know what you think.

Support

CMMP is supported via. email. we will try and respond to all mails promptly, but please bear in mind the time differences - we are based in the U.K.. U.S. users need to send mail off by mid-morning to have any chance of a response that day. Once you are a registered user, you will get notification of all the updates sent to you, and also email notification of any serious bugs which are discovered.

Future developments

Although at the time of writing, development of CMMP has been a very background activity for some time, the program is in regular use by the author. Version 1.8 will be the last DOS version and we hope to get started on a Windows port sooner or later. Once that has all the functionality of the DOS version, we hope to add some of the new features listed below. Registered users will be advised of updated versions via. email.

The following features are being planned for inclusion in a future version :-

Port to run as a propper Windows application
- No idea when we'll get started on this !
Enhancements to the hymns database
- - addition of 'flags' to the hymn records so you can search on a category.
- - sort on 'Tune Name'
Music database
- flags ( as for the hymns database ).
Music Notes
- links from database entry to prepared text for inclusion in notice sheets / Parish Mag. etc.
Import of service data from ASCII files.
Backup of data files from the application.
Ability to add suggested music to days in the lectionary
- these can then be viewed etc. from the service editor. and selected for inclusion in the usual way

etc. etc. as we think of other things to do with it. Comments and suggestions are more than welcome.
