Software
Apart from choosing which version of Windows Vista is appropriate for your needs, you should check that all the other software that you use is compatible, and that you do not need any updates. Check out the manufacturers web sites for more information.
Peripheral Devices
Printers, scanners, cameras and other external devices may require updated software to work with Windows Vista. Check out the manufacturers web sites for more information.
Note that many older USB Broadband modems are not supported, so if you have one of these, you will need to upgrade to either an ethernet ADSL modem or a router.
System Hardware
Most machines purchased within the last two years will be capable of running Windows Vista™ - though some may require additional memory.
Memory
More is always better! The 'Home Basic' edition requires at least 512MB of RAM, other editions require a minimum of 1GB.
'Power' users will require even more! We suggest installing 1GB for the Home Basic edition and at least 2GB for other editions, though the Home Premium edition does seem to run reasonably well on 1GB.
We work with one of the country's leading memory suppliers to identify the correct parts for your machine.
Memory upgrades for Dell, Compaq / HP, eMachines, Toshiba etc. (self install) are available from our store. If your particular system type is not listed, then please contact us for a quotation.
Hard Disk
Windows Vista™ requires at least 15GB of free space. We suggest a minimum disk size of 40GB.
Graphics
Your graphics card will need to support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM Driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, 32 bits per pixel.
DVD-ROM Drive
Windows Vista comes on a DVD, so you definitely require a DVD-ROM drive to load it.
