Latest Information, Hints and Tips
This month we share our new guide to 'Choosing and Using a Printer', servicing your PC, and our checklist for hassle free holiday computing.
Printers
Despite the drive to reduce the amount of paper we use, the printer is still very much part of our computing landscape. The range of options available can be quite daunting. It is quite important to match your printer to the type and amount of work you need it to do. Our new guide to printers outlines the various types available and provides help on getting the best out of it.

Cartridges and Consumables
To get the best results from your printer, you do need to use quality ink and paper. Our 'Cartridge Club' offers a personal supply service for customers. We send out a monthly exclusive price list with member offers and discounts. There's FREE local delivery and fitting if required.

PC Servicing
You all (hopefully!) have your cars serviced from time to time as they are very important in keeping you moving and carrying on your day to day lives. But what about the PC systems that you rely on to do jobs and hold your vital information?
In normal use, every PC collects some debris and a whole pile of software 'litter'. The result is that information gets more difficult to find, and the machine slows down. We can help you keep your machines working to their best ability by performing a 'Routine Preventative Maintenance' where we will give the machine a good clean inside and out, check for malware as well as other performance problems, and ensure that routine backups etc. are working correctly.
Do call if you would like us to do this for you.
Holiday Computing
It's good to take a summer break and possibly the best way to avoid computer hassle is to leave the laptop at home!
For many people, keeping an eye on email and some web browsing can be done perfectly well on a tablet or smartphone.
Others may want or need to take a laptop away on their travels.
Here then is our quick checklist for hassle free travels with your laptop.
- Make sure you have enough batteries of the right type for your camera and anything else that needs them.
- Check you have the power packs and chargers for everything.
- If travelling outside the UK, make sure you have enough adapters to cover the places you will be visiting.
- Even if you don't usually have your laptop password turned on, it's worth doing whilst away as your screen is more likely to be seen by strangers. Make sure that the screen saver is enabled and password protected.
- Before you go, take a good backup of all your data on to a memory stick or external hard drive - and leave it behind in a safe place. If the laptop gets lost, damaged or stolen, this could be your only copy!
- Whilst away, you may well be connecting to strange networks - some of which will not be secured. It's good policy to turn your WiFi card or interface OFF when you are not using it - don't leave the door open for holiday hackers.
Enjoy your holidays and stay safe!
